What if another decade passes you by and your memories and stories are lost to the sands of time?

  • You’ve thought about writing a book… and even started it… how many times?
  • You’ve gone to retreats and written some great stuff, and then did nothing with it when you got home…how many times?
  • You’ve written a few stories and was going to find someone to review them…how many times?

You’ve been here before.

This time—change the ending.

Introducing…

From Your Mat to Your Memoir

A 9-month program to inspire, teach, and support you to break through resistance and find and write your life stories.

Here’s how it works:

The process evolves in 3 stages. During each stage we meet for a 2-day retreat where you learn practices to unlock your creativity, break through resistance, uncover the stories that may be hiding, and have dedicated time to WRITE!

Guest experts are invited to teach you practices including various types of yoga, meditation, mindfulness, breath practices, self-care, time management, editing, doodling, etc.  You can pick and choose which ones you want to explore.

During the retreat weekend, you meet 1:1 with Rebecca and her editing partner to go over the work you submitted during the month so that you have a clear path moving forward on your journey.

During each stage, the group meets for a weekly check-in to give you the opportunity to share your work and connect with the group for support and feedback.

You also meet for an additional 1:1 check-in halfway through each stage of the journey.

Our bodies remember everything. Our stories live within us.

You don’t have to be able to touch your toes, stand on your head or do a back bend to be able to incorporate the flow/breathe/balance method I teach.

Even if you’ve never practiced yoga or meditated, you can learn this process and get your stories out of your body and onto the page.

I’m here to inspire, teach, and support you through the process.

This small group program is only open to 8 students… so you get one on one attention, feedback, and accountability.

If you’re ready to finally break through resistance and write your life stories, this program is designed just for you.

Grateful beyond words

I am grateful to Rebecca Gold for her enthusiastic encouragement of all the writers in our diverse group. She was able to coax focused pieces out of each writer, true to our own voices. I will always remember the grounding, healing, creative energy that Rebecca helped me wrangle from this time in my life.

“Writing as a healing practice during this time in my life.”

I know how hard it can be to sift through decades of memories and be able to write a story. It might be terrifying to share some of your stories.

And yet, you have this deep yearning to share them! Your children, grandchildren, and family will thank you for years to come for leaving this legacy.. your life in words.

I know this isn’t easy. In fact, true confession.. it took me TEN YEARS AND SIX MONTHS to write the first draft of my memoir!

Rebecca Gold meditating

Ten years of...

  • thinking about it
  • talking about it
  • writing bits and pieces
  • fear that I’d never do it
  • years of therapy talking about why I wasn’t writing
  • fear of reliving the trauma that I was writing about
  • thinking my story wasn’t interesting enough for anyone to want to read it
  • rereading what I wrote and hating it

…then back to my writing desk to write some more, only to abandon it again and again and again.

It felt like I was carrying a jar of apple sauce with me day in and day out; year in and year out. A jar full of mushy stories.

10 years.

And then, I dropped the jar. And we all know what happens when you drop a jar of apple sauce…

I needed someone to help me clean up the mess!

breath work

That “someone” came through my yoga and meditation training. Through learning about the Pancha Kosha philosophy, I was inspired to create a writing practice that actually had nothing to do with writing my book.

A practice to get stories out of my mind, out of my body, and onto the page. And all it took was 10 minutes a day. That’s it!

Those 10 minutes of a daily Yogic Writing practice freed me from my resistance and blocks and persistent inner critic so that I was able to finally dig in and write my stories.

I dedicated one weekend a month to completing my book.

And I hired a coach to keep me accountable! After 6 months, I had a stack of paper with a title page that read MY MEMOIR: FIRST DRAFT.

It was no longer a jar of mushy apple sauce! It was the apple of my eye (OK, that’s corny, but you get the idea, I was thrilled!)

I DID IT!!!

I kept saying it over and over again. The first draft was right there on the desk in front of me.

rebecca's manuscript

It took me 10 years of fighting with my inner critic before I could breathe life into my book. I had to learn how to make space in my body to unlock the stories that were hiding there.

I found a process that works. And I would love to share it with you. I don’t want you to have to go through 10 years of fighting, resisting, doubting.

Rebecca laughing

I can help you move from resistance to find your breath, to find your stories.

I can help you breathe life into your book.

I can help you clean up the apple sauce on the floor.

Let’s do this.

Stage 1: Flow (1 month)
Create a sustainable writing practice and learn how to break through resistance and get into a writing flow

In this first stage, I take you on a journey from your center to the page to create a sustainable writing practice so that you can begin creating content for your memoir.

Yogic Writing includes a 5-minute yogic practice (a meditation, a breath practice, or a simple asana sequence) and then 10 minutes of writing based on an engaging prompt—a new one every day for your first 21 days.

Every day you will be generating content and the words will begin to FLOW from your mind through your body to the page.

  • Guest experts during opening weekend to share a mindfulness practice and a yin yoga practice
  • Meet with guest author/editor to set intention and goals for the upcoming journey
  • 21- Daily emails with a yogic writing practice and prompt
  • Weekly zoom meetings to check in and share work
  • Private Facebook group to share thoughts, insights and support one another
  • Additional resources with yogic writing practices and writing prompts

“A beautiful practice to give you courage to write your words, your story.”  ~ Amy Jones, Santa Fe, NM

Stage 2: Breathe (4 months)
Breathe life into your book

In this second stage, you will breathe life into your book, whether it is a memoir or collection of life stories. A theme will emerge, and your book will start to take shape. During the first retreat in Stage 2, we will create an outline and a path to work through the upcoming month.

We meet one weekend approx. every 6 weeks during this 6-month stage for an online retreat where you have the opportunity to practice yogic writing exercises, have dedicated writing time to work on your stories, and meet individually with Rebecca and guest author/editor for feedback on the work you completed during each month.

Stage 2: (7 months) includes:

  • Opening weekend retreat with lessons on essential elements of writing a memoir  (outlining, hooks, dialogue, etc.)
  • Yogic Writing retreat (one weekend per month) for dedicated writing time and to meet individually with Rebecca for feedback on the work you submitted during the month
  • Weekend retreat guest experts to share mindfulness practices, yoga practices, and fun creative practices
  • Weekly group coaching calls to support your progress
  • Reference documents available including  additional yogic writing practices and writing prompts
  • Private Facebook group for community and support

FAQs

Got More Questions? I’ve Got Answers

Are the monthly retreats in person or online?

For now, the weekend retreats are online through zoom. However, I have tentatively reserved rooms at a beautiful B&B in Cape Cod, Massachusetts with hopes that at some point we can meet in person!  You can choose to spend your weekend in a private room there, or in the comfort of your own home and attend the monthly retreats through Zoom.

Do I have to be a yogi to join this program?

NO!  You do not need to have yoga, meditation, or writing experience to join this program. The yoga portion and all other workshops offered during the retreat weekends are optional.

Will my book be ready to publish after 6 months?

A first draft is not publication ready. At the end of the program, we will discuss next steps and options to bring your first draft to the next round and publishing options.

Regardless of whether or not you decide to join my program, I encourage you to begin setting aside 10-minutes each day to begin a writing practice.

Writing heals.

Your story matters.

Take it from me, and learn from my mistakes: Don’t wait 10 years to bring your stories to see the light of day.
